The latest in my nursing school news. I started classes at the beginning of September. First was Anatomy and Physiology, which was done at the end of September. We then began Basic Nursing, part of which includes ethics, legal aspects and culture/religion. When we were on the subject of ethics, I brought up the question of refusing to do something that would violate one's conscience. Specifically, I wanted to know if there would be any legal repercussions if I, as a student nurse, refused to do something at a clinical. My specific example was birth control, the only pertinent one for the context. It boiled down to, no, nothing would happen if I was asked to do something that I wasn't comfortable doing (such as distribute birth control) and refused to do it. It is, of course, more than a matter of comfort, but I didn't press the issue; there was no need. ...
